Our Investment Philosophy
Invest Using Fundamentals
Developing a consistent system for securities selection in a portfolio allows you to follow a process that achieves your investment objectives. We don’t believe that accepting market performance based solely on buying the largest companies in a country or industry, yields the best possible performance given your specific objectives.
Market conditions vary across different securities and asset classes over different time periods. Our products help to manage risk by investing your funds across multiple opportunities, geographies and sectors.
Many mutual funds tend to lack price transparency as investors do not find out what price they paid until market close. Also, many mutual funds do not disclose what they are holding in their portfolios until the end of the month. In between, you have no checks and balances to know if the portfolio manager is following the investment strategy you invested in. With ETFs, you have immediate price transparency as the funds are traded on the stock exchange. Additionally, the holdings are disclosed daily so you know how you are invested.
Many mutual funds charge higher fees due to overhead and administrative costs. Paying lower fees is particularly important in today’s low interest rate environment where you can put your money to work.
Today’s world has become global, your portfolio should too. By going global, you gain more exposure to other economies and industries, reducing your risk and potentially increasing your returns.
Because our funds are based on an index, they tend to have less turnover and therefore offer greater tax efficiency.
Market returns tend to vary greater during shorter-term periods. The longer your holding period, the more likely you will experience less volatility and greater positive returns.
Our team has over 100 years of combined experience in ETFs, portfolio management, trading and research at large Canadian financial institutions.
